For Linux, Windows, and Mac, I highly recommend installing Anaconda, which is a Python distribution that includes the modules you are most likely to use. It is also free.

You can probably accept the default values. I recommend that you allow the installer to set your search path and register the Anaconda version of Python, especially if you have an older version of Python already installed.
